Single beam and double beam gantry cranes are two common types of cranes. A gantry crane, also known as a gantry crane, is named after its metal structure resembling a portal frame. Mainly used for loading and unloading operations of outdoor cargo yards, material yards, and bulk cargo.

The steel structure of a gantry crane refers to the gantry of the gantry crane. The gantry of a double beam gantry crane is primarily composed of a saddle, main beam, supporting legs, lower crossbeam, and cantilever beam. These are all load-bearing components. To facilitate production, transportation, and equipment, bolts are used to connect the components for easy repair. According to the difference in main beam methods, there are two types of gantry cranes: single beam gantry cranes and double beam gantry cranes.

1. Double beam gantry crane. The double beam gantry crane has the advantages of strong bearing capacity, large span, good overall stability, and high overall stiffness, but it has a large self weight and high cost. Double girder gantry cranes are divided into two types: box girder gantry cranes and truss girder gantry cranes. The box type main beam gantry crane is generally a skewed track box type beam, with multiple upper arches on the support legs, forming a statically indeterminate frame to solve the problem of small cars and goods passing through the legs. Compared with the truss double beam gantry crane, its manufacturing technology is simple, the transportation equipment is convenient, reliable, and the overall rigidity is good, but its weight is relatively large.

2. Single beam gantry crane. Single beam gantry cranes have the characteristics of simple construction, easy manufacturing equipment, and light weight, and are mostly constructed with skewed track box beams. Select under the condition of a general lifting capacity of ≤ 50 tons and a span of ≤ 35 meters. The most common types are L-shaped and T-shaped. L-shaped manufacturing equipment is convenient, with good stress conditions and light weight, but the legroom for goods is small. The C-shaped support legs are integrated with the lower crossbeam, which is not easy to manufacture, but has the advantage of large space for goods to pass through the legs. Due to its large weight, it is generally selected for railway freight yards.
